“Ai Made Me Do It” emerged as a title while I was exploring a series of images that combined my own work with text prompts for an installation in The Small House Gallery. In this process, I found unexpected correspondences between my drawings, mental images, and words—suggesting a kind of collaboration with something beyond myself. The work evolved iteratively, which felt natural to my way of making: a circuit of dreams, ideas, improvisation, and material exploration. Now, Ai has become part of that circuit. It responds to me, and I to it. While the final installation at Small House Gallery is unmistakably handmade—playful, even childlike—Ai’s reimaginings and hallucinations have gently steered me into creative directions I might not have taken alone.
